Autumn term menu 18-19
At lunchtimes, children may have a school dinner or bring packed lunches. Remember that Year R, 1 and 2 now receive free school meals. For more information about school dinner money, please look at the documents to the right and the information below.
School Dinner Payments
The cost of a meal remains at £2.30 and payments must be made in advance.
Payments should be sent to school in sealed envelopes clearly marked with the child’s name and the lunches that it relates to. If possible, please send cheques, payable to HAMSTREET SCHOOL LUNCHES, as cash is easily lost in school, especially coins.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IF ACCOUNTS FALL INTO ARREARS OF MORE THAN £20 PER CHILD, THE KITCHEN WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OFFER YOUR CHILD ANY FURTHER LUNCHES UNTIL ARREARS ARE CLEARED IN FULL.
If you do have any queries, we would ask that you send a note to the school office as soon as possible as any discrepancies are usually very easily sorted out.
You may pay weekly, monthly or termly in advance. We have detailed weekly/termly amounts below. If a child is absent from school, they will not be charged for a meal.
1 meal= £2.30
Week (5 days) £11.50
(Remember, Yr R, Yr 1 and Yr 2 children now receive free school meals.)
About the Kitchen
Hamstreet Primary has an independent kitchen providing good quality food sourced from local suppliers.
Established in 2005 and staffed by current or past parents, we cater for over 260 children per day.
We prepare all meals on site from scratch even down to peeling and chopping onions, rumbling potatoes and carrots, making and cutting out cookies, brownies, cup-cakes, and we make our own beef burgers and meat balls. When we cook roast meat we order joints that we cook and carve ourselves, and we make our own sauces for lasagne, pasta and pies.
We offer 2 fresh vegetables a day such as fresh carrots, broccoli, mashed swede, shredded cabbage, diced cucumber, grated carrot and mixed salad but we also use frozen petit pois, sweetcorn, whole green beans and baked beans. We provide a salad trolley daily as well as fresh fruit and yoghurt for pudding. Fresh milk and homemade bread are also available every day.
We can cater for special diets and so far we have cooked for children with the following requirements:
Wheat free, dairy free
Wheat free, dairy free, egg free
Meals without tomatoes, citrus fruit, strawberries
And of course NO nuts.
We try to use local suppliers, where we can, which include the following:
Fish – Dungeness Fish, Dungeness
Fruit Salad, Vegetables, Eggs – PK Produce, Bethersden
Meat and Poultry – Carley Butchers, Woodchurch
Sausages – Korkers, High Halden
Milk and Yoghurt – Northiam Dairy, Northiam
Dry Stores and Frozen Goods – Bradleys, Ashford and QCS, Sittingbourne
Potatoes – The Potato Shop, Tenterden
During the year we invite parents to join their children for lunch so that they can share the lunchtime experience and see what food is on offer. We also have BBQ lunches outside when the weather is warm which all the children really enjoy with Hot Dogs and ice cream. At other times of the year we hold themed sticker days (e.g. Children in Need Day) where the children can win a prize.
If you have any queries which you wish to discuss with us regarding your child’s dietary needs, please let us know. We are happy to talk with you at the end of the day.
As from September 2014 all children in the first three years of primary education are entitled to free school meals regardless of their parents’ income. This money, plus the free school meal money, is used to pay food costs, cooking and cleaning equipment, annual maintenance and staff wages. No other funds are received.
