At Hamstreet Primary Academy, children are given the opportunity to study French throughout the school. We chose this language because of its worldwide importance and the school’s close proximity to France. Throughout key stage 2, children have the opportunity to put their learning in to real life contexts. This includes conversing with pen pals and children having the  opportunity in Year 6  to take part in a residential trip to Paris.

The school aims to provide a positive, exciting and enriching experience when teaching French, using role-play and other speaking and listening techniques to foster confidence and lower inhibitions. We want the children to develop a modest communicative competence and a tolerance of another culture as well as greater understanding of their own. As well as this, we hope the children will develop the ability to cope in a foreign culture. We also believe learning another language enhances the pupils’ understanding of their own language and improves their communication skills.
